Former Orlando Pirates start Segolela backs Kgositsile: "He's here to write his story and continue the legacy"

Kabelo Kgositsile

Former Orlando Pirates winger Tlou Segolela has weighed in on the comparisons being made between himself and new Buccaneers signing Kabelo Kgositsile, insisting the youngster deserves to be judged on his own merit.

Kgositsile has caught the eye since returning to Pirates after two loan spells at Baroka FC, with fans drawing parallels to Segolela due to their similar pace and direct style on the wing.

But Segolela says the focus should be on what Kgositsile brings to the current squad.

Speaking to _KickOff_, Segolela said: "It's not about comparing the two."

"Kgositsile is a very interesting player, he has been playing professional football for three seasons now. I'm glad Pirates decided against loaning him out again,” Segolela noted.

The legend reflected on Kgositsile’s difficult start at Mayfair, where he was signed but struggled for game time.

"He was signed but not given an opportunity and ended up being loaned back to Baroka, and now he is proving he deserved to be part of Pirates' talented squad."

Segolela, who made over 100 appearances for Pirates between 2010 and 2016, believes Kgositsile has the attributes to thrive under coach Jose Riveiro.

“He is one of their quickest players, he is not scared, he enjoys one-v-one. He is there to write his story and continue the legacy," he added.

Kgositsile’s return comes at a time when Pirates are looking to add more width and attacking threat, and the 22-year-old winger will be hoping to cement a regular spot in the Buccaneers’ squad this season.
